The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Position and Duties:
The Public Works Department is seeking to fill a Technical Services Network Engineer position. This position deals with local/wide area networks with multiple servers and network segments, systems administration or desktop and application support and system maintenance.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Troubleshooting and support of Servers, desktop and mobile devices.
-Assessing problems, devising quality solutions for resolution, recommending purchases as needed.
-Configuration of Windows Operating Systems (XP, Win7, Svr 2003, Svr 2008).
-Monitors system performance for availability, speed, capacity, storage issues and security problems. Change the performance of systems and prevent the items shown above from becoming problems. Examples of actions include applying security patches, ensure security best practices are followed and restoring lost data (including data that is the most difficult to receive).
-Coordinates the provision of a variety of information systems data that may include the evaluation, planning, design and implementation of existing and new systems for multi-use, each having specific individual or competing requirements or integrated functions.
-Interact and communicate tactfully with staff, customers, and the public.
-Manage multiple assignments and prioritize and reprioritize work when resources are not available.
-System backups and restores.
-Maintaining inventory records and systems documentation.
-Program, Interpret, and modify new and existing programs.
-Set-up and implement computer hardware and software programs.
-Training of end users in use of Windows, Office applications, best practices and connecting to the network and applications.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
1. Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Technology, or a closely related field
2. Experience: Three years of experience at the level of Network Technician II with the City of San Jose
3. Acceptable Substitutions: Two years of related experience may be substituted for up to two years of the education requirement.
4. Licenses or Certificates:
-Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
-Possession of a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certificate or an equivalent professional, industry recognized certification. Examples of equivalent certifications include but are not limited to: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
5. Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in this country. Please be informed that the City of San Jose will not prepare or file a labor condition application with the Dept. of Labor.
